In 2023, our audiology team studied the effectiveness of PocketAid technology on different hearing loss types, analysing user-shared audiograms and success stories.

An audiogram is a graph showing hearing sensitivity across frequencies and volumes.

Frequencies, measured in Hertz (Hz), are on the horizontal axis, with low frequencies on the left and high frequencies on the right. Loudness, measured in decibels (dB), is on the vertical axis, with softer sounds at the top (0-20 dB indicating normal hearing) and louder sounds below.

In an audiogram, circles represent the right ear and crosses the left ear. The graph displays the faintest sounds detectable at various frequencies. Marks within the 0-20 dB range indicate normal hearing. Those positioned lower suggest reduced hearing sensitivity, providing a detailed view of auditory capacity for each ear at different frequencies.

Alice L, QLD

Clinical Audiogram

Audiology Insights

Alice has only lost a very small amount of hearing in the low frequency range for both ears (10 decibels). You can see as the chart moves into the high frequency range (from 2 kHz- 4kHz) more hearing loss is apparent and she falls 20-30 decibels outside of the normal range. It’s interesting because the right ear is poorer than the left at 1 kHz yet better than the left at 3 and 4 kHz. Overall, we would expect Alice to experience mild to moderate hearing difficulties.
Alice purchased one Jaspa 3 hearing aid for the right ear.

Brian H, WA

Clinical Audiogram

Audiology Insights

Brian has only lost a very small amount of hearing in the low frequency range. However, the high frequencies show additional hearing loss for both ears, with the left being the poorer ear. Brian essentially has a mild to moderate hearing loss in both ears. Brian purchased two Jaspa 3 hearing aids.

“Great product, great service and very affordable. I was almost ready to order another brand which was going to leave me out of pocket $3,600.I was alerted to the Jaspa 3 product after seeing the product advertised. A very satisfied user of Jaspa 3 hearing aids.”

Cornelis S, QLD

Clinical Audiogram

Audiology Insights

Cornelis has 10-20 decibels of hearing loss in the low to mid frequency range. Both ears show additional hearing loss in the high frequency range, with the left ear being the better ear. Overall, we would expect Cornelis to experience moderate hearing difficulties given her hearing loss in both ears. Cornelis purchased two Jaspa 3 hearing aids.

“My Jaspa 3 hearing aids are better than the $13,000 ones I had before. It is wonderful to be able to select an appropriate program myself, not needing to visit an Audiologist to do it.”

Doug O, NSW

Clinical Audiogram

Audiology Insights

Doug has normal hearing levels in the low frequencies, and you can see on the chart the markings for both ears fall within the normal range. In the mid frequencies he has only lost a very small amount of hearing (15-25 decibels). It is the high frequencies where more hearing loss is apparent, with both ears showing between 30- 40 decibels of loss. Overall, we would expect Doug to have trouble hearing the consonants of speech only, and he would likely have little to no difficulty hearing vowel sounds.

Doug purchased two Jaspa 3 hearing aids.

Geoff S, WA

Clinical Audiogram

Audiology Insights

Geoff has essentially normal hearing thresholds in the low and mid frequencies up to 1 kHz. You can then see his hearing levels slope down in the high frequencies, falling into the moderate range in this chart. Both ears have very similar hearing levels across all frequencies.

Geoff did well with 2 Jaspa 3 hearing aids.

Grahame R, QLD

Clinical Audiogram

Grahame has only a mild low frequency hearing loss in both ears. As we move into the high frequencies, both ears show a significant decline in the high frequencies, with the left ear being the poorer ear.

Grahame purchased two Jaspa 3 hearing aids.

“I bought 2 Jaspa 3 aids so that I can leave one beside each landline phone. I do not wear my prescribed aids all the time, and it is handy to have one available at each phone. I a very impressed with the flexibility and efficiency of the Jaspa 3, and their superiority to the $4000 pair of aids I currently have.”

Jim P, QLD

Clinical Audiogram

Audiology Insights

Jim’s right ear shows a very mild hearing loss in the low and mid frequencies, right up until 2kHz, before some mild to moderate hearing loss is apparent in the higher frequency range. The left ear also shows a very mild hearing loss in the low frequencies, however begins to slope down from 1 kHz, showing an overall moderate level of high frequency hearing loss.

Despite the hearing being much better in the right ear, Jim still benefited from wearing 2 Jaspa 3 hearing aids.

The Jaspa 3 Hearing Aids have been great from the start, and Found Hearing continues to provide  good back-up support and advice. This was essential because that was the first time I had worn hearing aids. The thing I noticed in the first week was the birds chirping in the trees. They were not quite as noticeable without hearing aids. I now have Government supplied hearing aids as well, but I actually prefer to use the Jaspa 3 devices because of their ease of use

Keith M, QLD

Clinical Audiogram

Audiology Insights

Keith has a very mild low-mid frequency hearing loss in both ears. At 2 kHz and above more considerable high frequency hearing loss is apparent in both ears, with the right ear being worse in the key high frequency areas (important for hearing the high frequency consonants of speech, like ‘s’, ‘p’, ‘t’, ‘k’.)

Keith did well with 2 Jaspa 3 hearing aids.

Kevin H, QLD

Clinical Audiogram

Audiology Insights

Kevin has a mild low frequency hearing loss in both ears, meaning that he can likely hear vowel sounds with little difficulty. His hearing loss slopes off considerably as we enter into the higher frequencies with the left ear being his poorer ear. As a result, he likely has considerable trouble hearing the consonants of speech.

Kevin purchased 2 Jaspa 3 hearing aids.

Michael M, NSW

Clinical Audiogram

Audiology Insights

Michael has a relatively flat mild to moderate hearing loss in both ears. A flat loss is where there are similar amounts of hearing loss across the low, mid and high frequencies. This type of hearing loss usually results in someone having significant trouble hearing soft voices, speech from a distance, as well as trouble hearing in background noise.

Michael purchased 2 Jaspa 3 hearing aids.

“Working in healthcare, it is extremely important that I hear patients and other staff clearly. When this was no longer possible without a hearing aid I was worried, but knew that I should probably push on and get one. A relative let me try his $8000 set and I knew straight away that it made a big difference to what I could hear, so I knew that I had to get a set myself. I definitely didn’t want to spend $8000 so I did some research and saw the Jaspa 3 on the Internet. It looked to have the features of what I was after at a small fraction of the cost of the ones I had tried, so I went ahead and bought just one to try. To my surprise, it did exactly the same job as the expensive one I had tried, so without hesitation I bought a second one and now have a set at a very reasonable cost!”
