The PocketAid Journey

With over 17 years of hands-on experience in direct face-to-face audiology care within Australian audiology clinics, our founders, hearing specialists Suzanne Porter and Don Hudson, embarked on a mission to simplify the path to better hearing.

They observed a recurring challenge faced by individuals with mild hearing difficulties—a challenge often overlooked. Despite the relatively minor nature of their hearing issues, these individuals found themselves subjected to the same rigorous consultation and fitting processes and exorbitant hearing aid prices as those with more significant impairments.

Suzanne and Don saw an opportunity to revolutionise the status quo.

Amid the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, when many customers were hesitant to attend in-person hearing appointments, our team collaborated with skilled engineers. Together, we embarked on a journey to create an advanced over-the-counter device designed specifically for those with mild-moderate hearing difficulties. This innovative solution could be supplied directly to the customer for use, without the need for a hearing test or even an appointment.

Our approach was rooted in data and precision. We based the frequency responses and digital programming for these aids on a database of over 1000 real client audiograms, representing a diverse range of hearing difficulties. The outcome was nothing short of remarkable.

By the close of 2020, more than 1000 individuals were benefiting from the Jaspa 3 hearing aids, without ever having had a related hearing test or appointment. Even more remarkable, a significant portion of them reported comparable or superior performance when compared to previous sets of hearing aids that had cost them thousands of dollars!

Since that pivotal year, Don and Suzanne have expanded our offerings, now collectively known as “PocketAid”. These aids provide a straightforward solution for individuals with mild hearing difficulties, inspired by one of our earliest Jaspa 3 users. He was so pleased with the affordability of our devices that he felt comfortable carrying them in his pocket, hence coining the term “Pocket-Aid.

From 2020 onwards, our journey has been one of constant growth, and today, our range of PocketAid hearing aids is being embraced by thousands. We remain dedicated to enhancing our offerings and continuing to serve Australian consumers with ever-improving solutions for their hearing needs.
