How do you insert the hearing aid?
To use the Diamond Stream 12 hearing aid, start by positioning the device behind your ear, resting it comfortably on top. Next, gently place the soft dome at the entrance of your ear canal, inserting to the depth that feels comfortable. Ensures the tubing runs flush with your skin. The dome’s unique angle and shape are designed to securely anchor the hearing aid in place within your ear canal.
How do you remove the Diamond Stream 12 hearing aids?
You simply pull the device from the top of your ear, and at the same time the soft dome is removed from your ear canal.
Is there a difference between the left and right side?
The receiver on the left and right hearing aid models is designed to fit the shape of the right ear and the left ear separately. You must use the right hearing aid for the right ear, and the left hearing aid for the left ear. The hearing aid’s software is also programmed as a L or R aid, so that if you use the diamond stream remote control, it knows when you adjust the right aid on the remote that it communicates with the right sided hearing aid. The aids also identify each other as a matching unit when the right and left sided hearing aids are used together as a pair.
The hearing aid is pre-assembled with the correct side receiver depending on your order for a left or right hearing aid.
How long does the battery last?
The Diamond Stream 12 hearing aid is powered by a cutting-edge lithium-ion battery engineered for extended and reliable performance. The user-friendly magnetic charging case stores enough power into the battery to provide 20 hours of full-capacity usage after a single complete charge. This means you can enjoy days of use before needing to recharge. Simply insert the devices into the charger overnight when they’re not in use, and recharge as needed.
How long does it take to charge the Diamond Stream 12?
The Diamond Stream 12 is usually fully charged in less than 1 hour. We stipulate in the user guide a maximum charging time of less than 2 hours.
What are its fast charging capabilities?
The charger is also equipped with fast charging capabilities, where a quick charge for 15 minutes = 8 hours of hearing aid usage.
Do I need to replace the rechargeable battery?
No, the battery is not required to be replaced, and is encased in the hearing aid. Like any lithium battery, you can expect a gradual reduction in the hours of continuous use following a full charge over several years.
How does the charger work?
The charger functions by being connected to a power source, the same as standard chargers. Its unique feature is that it can also store power. This means you can charge your hearing aids using the charger alone, without needing to plug it into a wall outlet. The charger can fully recharge the hearing aids up to 3 times before requiring a wall recharge. When connected to a wall outlet, it simultaneously charges both itself and the hearing aids. Alternatively, if you’re using the hearing aids, you have the option to solely recharge the charger. The advantage of the charger’s ability to hold a charge is especially useful for travel. It allows the hearing aids to be recharged multiple times over several days without requiring an external power source.
How does the Bluetooth connection work?
You can pair the hearing aids to your Bluetooth device such as your mobile phone, pc, tablet, and even your TV (if you have a Bluetooth enabled TV). You simply utilise the Bluetooth settings and search for the hearing aids, which will display as PocketAid on your device. Your Diamond Stream 12 hearing aids are in pairing mode for the first 10 minutes after you turn them on (Removing them from the charging case instantly powers on the hearing aids). You can then connect to your hearing aids by accepting the prompts on your Bluetooth device.
What are the benefits to receiving audio over Bluetooth?
The primary benefit to receiving audio over Bluetooth is improved signal-to-noise ratio. In Bluetooth mode, the hearing aids are receiving only the audio from the device. This means no outside noise or any other exterior audio is amplified. This usually results in supreme clarity for the audio received over Bluetooth.
How does the hearing aid swap between Bluetooth Audio Streaming and regular hearing aid mode?
The Diamond Stream 12 is enabled to detect if you are actively using your phone for Bluetooth Streaming- this means if you play a song on your mobile phone for example, it will swap to Bluetooth mode to allow you to stream the music directly to your ears. The same thing happens if you are receiving a phone call, the hearing aid will swap to Bluetooth Streaming mode and you will hear your phone ringing through the hearing aids. To receive the call, you simply short push the button once on either hearing aid. To reject or hang up the call you simply long press the button for 2 seconds.
As soon as the activity on your phone is paused or stops, the Diamond Stream 12 returns to normal hearing aid mode.
How long will the hearing aids last me?
Most people replace their hearing aids every 3 years. If you take good care of your hearing aids, they can last up to 5 years.
We recommend the use of a simple drying container and moisture removal tablet to use with all PocketAid devices (non-electronic). Drying tablets and drying containers are very inexpensive (and available on the website). You simply place the hearing aids in the drying container at night which removes any moisture from within the hearing aid. In Australia the humidity is high, and we recommend placing your aids in a drying container once a month to remove and moisture.
Will one hearing aid be enough for me?
If you have hearing loss in both ears, you will do much better with two hearing aids. In fact, you will most likely do twice as well compared to using one hearing aid. The benefits to wearing two hearing aids over one is similar to that of glasses. Correcting both eyes brings much better focus, clarity, depth etc.
The benefits to wearing two hearing aids as opposed to one device:
Improved signal to noise ratio. Expect to hear the speech amongst the noise much better with two hearing aids.
Improved balance and acoustic awareness. You will feel an equal level of sound in both ears, which brings with it a feeling of auditory balance.
Better localisation. Your brain using timing information from when sounds hits one ear and when sound hits the other ear to tell you which direction a sound is coming from. The use of both ears improves your ability to localise sounds in your environment.
360-degree hearing. If you only fit one ear with a hearing aid, and you need a hearing aid both ears, then you won’t hear as well from the non-fitted side. The use of two aids gives you 360-degree hearing.
Are there circumstances where one aid is enough?
In situations where one ear has severely limited hearing or is considered a ‘dead ear’, or alternatively, if one ear has normal hearing, the use of two hearing aids is generally unnecessary. In these instances, a hearing aid would not be advantageous for the ear with either extremely poor or normal hearing ability.
Are the Diamond Stream hearing aids waterproof?
As electronic devices, you cannot submerge the hearing aids in water. You cannot swim or shower with the hearing aids in. However, the hearing aid materials are well equipped to manage humidity and small amounts of moisture.
I get significant wax build up; will the Diamond Stream 12 hearing aids be suitable for me?
When using any hearing aid, including the Diamond Stream 12 hearing aids, it’s essential to understand that the sound travels through your ear canal to reach your eardrum. Earwax in the canal can block this sound path, diminishing the benefits of wearing a hearing aid.
You should have the wax removed from your ears on a regular basis (for most people this is once to twice a year), but if you get significant wax build up you should clean your ears more often.
With the Diamond Stream 12 hearing aids, the receiver is protected by a wax guard at the end of the device. A set of replacement wax guards come with your hearing aids. It is important to clean the end of the receiver for wax regularly, and every 6 months you can replace the wax guard with one of the replacement wax guards if necessary (this is only if you have significant wax build up and severely block the wax guard). As the hearing aid itself sits on top of your ear, it is not subjected to wax in any way.
